[Maine-birds] Golden Eagle, Clinton and Benton

This bird is vying for the longest staying of any Golden Eagle during winter in Maine, but it can be difficult to find. On Saturday, we got close to where it was only by looking for a massive flock of alarmed birds, crows in this case, and positioning ourselves near that disturbance. There is no solid place that we know of yet to find the Golden Eagle. Cruising up and down River Road from Wyman Rd in Benton north to the Tardiff Rd and Peavey Rd seems to be the best approach. Please use safe pull-outs and mind traffic.

Another immature Golden Eagle is wintering in the Tantramar marshes near Sackville, New Brunswick. Stu Tingley has been tracking that bird and has put up some great video here:

Their bird may be a year older than ours judging by flight feather pattern. I find it interesting that both ours and theirs show asymmetrical white patches in the wings. Not only that, but both birds show the larger patch on the left wing. Check out Stu's video to get a feel for the wing shape and posture of a Golden Eagle.
