Dear Maine Birders,
I am considering a run up to Maine to look for rarities and especially to see the Northern Hawk Owl and was wondering how reliable the owl has been and was hoping to get some more detailed information on when the best times are to look for the owl and specific directions. Other target birds would be Pine Grosbeak, Bohemian Waxwings, Black-legged Kitiwake, Dovekie, Thick-billed Murre. I would be residing in Ellsworth area about 30 minutes from Bar Harbor and MDI. While on a pre-Superbowl snack and beverage run yesterday, I stopped in at Houlton and quickly found the Hawk Owl teed up on a utility pole. The bird snagged a vole in the ditch in front of me and retired to next pole over to daintily swallow it whole.--The bird was on the Access Road behind Yorks car dealership as earlier described.Ravens won...Cheers
