[Maine-birds] Frenchman Bay

7/19/13
Six Bald Eagles on Egg Rock (Frenchman Bay) today just as the Herring Gull chick have gotten big enough to start moving around. One adult eagle was carrying a large HEGU chick across the bay toward the Sheep Porcupine nest and was being harassed by gulls for most of the way.
A small flock of 10-15 Least Sandpipers were also on the rock today, first since early May and probably southward migrants.
There appears to be no surviving Double-crested Cormorant nestlings as Thrumcap Island. Bald Eagles and Northern Ravens had been seen several times in the middle of the nesting area. Nesting had been disrupted earlier by gulls after kayakers camped on the island back in June.
Very few Gannets have been in the bay so far this summer and an adult today was the first seen in a month.
