This week’s birding column in the Bangor Daily News continues the theme from last week: bird sex.

I hit the South Lubec Sand Flats, but there were few shorebirds today. I also took a boat trip from Lubec up to East Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Many Bonaparte’s gulls were present, but I didn’t note any unusual gull species, kittiwakes, or shearwaters. Lots of razorbills in the channel, though, and one common murre.
We hit Pigeon Hill Bay at low tide this afternoon. A handful of greater yellowlegs were near and a dozen short-billed dowitchers were distant.
