Re: [Maine-birds] Mystery Duck

I think this is the same duck I saw at the Junk Pond in Evergreen Cemetery late last spring.  It was all by itself and not the least bit shy of me.  Meant to post a query back then but forgot about it in the midst of migration mania.

Subject: [Maine-birds] Mystery Duck

 I posted a photo to the maine-birds list on flickr.  There is a duck that hangs out by the island park on Water St in Saco.  I thought it was a melanistic mallard but it lacks the curly tail.  It hangs out with some hen mallards and a hybrid malard x black duck.  Its dark colored and has almost a blue sheen to the body and a green sheen to the head like a mallard.  Any ideas?
