[Maine-birds] Close encounter with Northern Goshawk in Harrington

This morning we heard harsh calls of many crows.  We looked out the window and saw crows diving steeply below our wall and into the lower yard.  We got closer to the window and could see a male Northern Goshawk in deep snow with a crow in its talons (about 10 yards from the house).  The crows continued to violently dive on the goshawk (hitting it several times), the captured crow was struggling mightily (pecking at the goshawk's head) and at one point the goshawk ended up head down in the deep snow due to the captured crow's struggles.  An adult Bald Eagle flew in (probably investigating a food piracy opportunity) and all the crows diverted their attention to the eagle and then flew out to the bay.  The eagle left, the crows flew back in but by then the goshawk was plucking the crow and there was no struggle from the captured crow.  The crow posse lost interest at that point, a few feeble caws and they flew off. The goshawk carried off its prey!!
