[Maine-birds] Waterboro Barrens

At Derek's suggestion visited Waterboro Barrens yesterday. Found 12-14 red crossbills only about 1/3 mile in from junction of Newfield Road and Gray Road, walking in on the packed snowmobile trail. Found another 4 up Round Pond Rd, a little beyond where Bluff Brook Rd turns left. The birds were in trees just where Hairpin Rd turns off to left. The birds were very vocal and easy to locate, preferring high visible perches. Many of the vocalizations similar to "red crossbill 4" on iBird Pro v7.2. Also many pileated woodpeckers in the area, as there are many dead pines with flaking bark.
