Leon Mooney and I had great looks at the continuing Thick-Billed Murre this afternoon at the Nubble Lighthouse in Cape Neddick. This is presumably the same bird that was seen yesterday at Perkins Cove and has been seen since early in the week at the Nubble. We were birding from the car for some time in different parts of the parking lot as the wind was crazy and blowing snow horizontally! We did not have any sign of the bird until we were just about to leave and we looked one last time to the south of the lot and the bird was about 200 yards away. It then continued to foot-paddle it's way against the wind and spent some quality time right in between the light house and the parking lot in the narrowest part of the channel.
We also found a drake American Wigeon in the first or second cove north of the Cape Neddick River. According to Google maps, either Wadleigh's Head or Pint Cove. This is not a common winter species, but are seen through at least some portion of the winter each year typically in fresh to very sheltered salt water. I was surprised to see this bird on the rocky coast line of Ogunquit!
Bird haahd!
