It’s on p244 of “A Birder’s Guide to Maine” (Pierson, Pierson, Vickery) and p180 of “The Official Guide to the Maine Birding Trail” (Duchesne), so it must be true. One of the most reliable places to look for frugivores in winter is Littlefield Ornamental Garden on the University of Maine campus in Orono. That whole side of campus was crawling with Pine Grosbeaks this morning.
I put up some video on https://www.facebook.com/MaineBirdingTrail.
