[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights, 2/7-13

Hi all,

Just a few observations of note from me over the past seven days included:
- 1 adult Northern Goshawk, our yard in Pownal, 2/9 (and perhaps also 2/10).
- 4 Horned Larks, Pine Point, Scarborough, 2/10 (with Jeannette).
- 1 DOVEKIE, Dyer Point, Cape Elizabeth, 2/13 (with Lois Gerke).
- 1 THICK-BILLED MURRE, continuing at Kettle Cove, Cape Elizabeth, 2/13 (with Lois Gerke; photos. With Black Guillemots at several locations, and a Razorbill off of Portland Head Light, we had a 4 alcid morning!).
- 1 THICK-BILLED MURRE, Mackworth Island Causeway, 2/13.
- 1 THICK-BILLED MURRE, Falmouth Town Landing, 2/13 (photos).

- 4 Barrow's Goldeneyes (one pair plus two drakes) are now in the Lower Harraseeket River here in South Freeport, with the only open water now mostly around the tip of Winslow Park.
- 12 Dunlin were still at Winslow Park as usual, through at least 2/7 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).
- all three mergansers continue in varying numbers in what's left of the open water in Yarmouth Harbor at Grist Mill Park through week's end.

-"Winter Finch" high counts this week:
Purple Finch: 3, our yard in Pownal all week.
Common Redpoll: 22, Village Crossings, Cape Elizabeth, 2/13 (with Lois Gerke).
Pine Siskin: 1 at several locations this week.
American Goldfinch: 42, here at the store, 2/12.
