[Maine-birds] Upland Sandpipers back on the blueberry barrens

Today we saw 5 Upland Sandpipers in the blueberry barrens of Columbia Falls.  One pair was seen well on Highland Road and a second pair was seen at the first set of buildings of the old radar site.  At the radar site another lone bird was sitting on a tall light pole giving its plaintive whistle.

We also saw 4 Brown Thrashers around the radar site and a fifth Thrasher was seen back on Highland Road.  Three Kestrels were flying around the barrens.

Back home we saw a flock of 120+ Black-bellied Plover on the mud flats of Flat Bay - the biggest flock we have seen this spring.  The Common Terns have returned as well - earlier than last year.
