1 of 2 Greenland Dunlin (subsp) was present at Popham Beach this morning. Spotted in a large mass of peeps after a 3-hour search. Fair photos in the increasing rain. No sign of a second bird, but the rain cut short a continuing search. After spending the high slack asleep above the high wrack line, all shorebirds settled into the lagoon as it slowly drained. The distribution of loafing shorebirds depends heavily on wandering beach-combers. But during the early ebb, they all seem to gravitate to several favored locations around the edge of the lagoon. Disturbance there seems more manageable. A strafing Merlin is a daily occurrence now.
