[Maine-birds] Popham Beach in the continuing fog - Aug 26.

Start of the ebb, the lagoon soon filled up with peeps and >100 BBPlovers. 5 flagged SemiSands, 4 of which are from the local experiment. The 5th (Blue CL5) was tagged in Brazil and has been here a cool 2 weeks…so far.

Other highlights include Whimbrels eating caterpillars. I've noticed these unindent. caterpillars for the past 2 weeks or so. Like a Blonde Wooly Bear. The birds would spend some time banging them against the ground, apparently knocking loose some of the hairs, before swallowing them. Whimbrels in the fog spend a bit of time communicating and keeping tabs on one another.

The relatively calm scene ended abruptly this morning when a Merlin made repeated diving attacks at 10:50, dispersing all of the shorebirds. Came away still hungry.
