These might be my new favorite diving birds. I was paddling on Messalonskee Lake at sunset and saw two pairs of pied billed grebes both with young.
Also saw a pair of loons with two half-grown chicks
a flock of about 50 swallows (too dark for id)

great blue herons
cranes (heard but not seen)
Canada geese
two painted turtles
one snapping turtle
The black terns have left already.
Heaven to be on the water tonight.
