Re: [Maine-birds] nighthawks

Awesome - 'tis the season! My family and I had dinner on the patio at 302 West Smokehouse in Fryeburg tonight. We were slightly annoyed by the constant visitations to our table by flying ants until I looked out across the fields to the west and saw at least 50 common nighthawks feasting up a storm over the fields and yonder Saco River. It was just before sunset, the juxtaposition of the sun poking through distant clouds on the mountains and the nearby bird acrobatics was a spectacular visual accompaniment to summertime beer and BBQ. But then again, what isn't?

Cheers to late summer!
