[Maine-birds] Saco River Walk - Probable Toulouse Goose

Today along the banks of the Saco at the Water Treatment Plant and the River Walk I found the Winter Wren, Nashville Warbler, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet and a Merlin.  Much to my surprise as I posted earlier today I saw a Red-Throated Loon.  I have only seen Loons two or three times near Factory Island and never above the falls.  This was the first Red-Throated Loon I have observed here.

In addition, I saw my first Common Mergansers of the season here.  There were 3 Hens.  Lots of Canada Geese, at least 5 Mockingbirds, many of the usual suspects including a very large number of Tree Sparrows and Dark-Eyed Juncos.

The Merlin chased after a flock of 47 Cedar Waxwings.  It left the area and then returned about 11AM.  It sat on top of a telephone pole for about 5 minutes before heading up river.  I assume it was the same individual bird and that Noah Gibb later acquired it.

I've posted some photos on my blog.  Here is the shortlink:
