Hi Folks,
The State of the Birds 2013 report has been released, and it cites eBird contributions as key to the level of detail needed for conservation planning. Here is a link via Cornell Lab of Ornithology:

Important Bird Areas (IBAs) have been developed worldwide to identify critical habitats and regions worthy of long-term bird conservation. Maine Audubon, led by Susan Gallo, is working to gather bird sightings in Maine that will guide the IBA technical committee, and they are asking us to use eBird to make that happen.
Here is a chance for everyone to contribute their bird observations and turn them into something of real value. As with the State of the Birds report, eBird data are going to be instrumental.
I wholeheartedly endorse this. I know a lot of folks on this list use eBird, and for those not yet doing so, here is incentive to start. Submit your checklists when birding IBAs and also when birding areas in need of data (eBird allows one to see where no lists have been submitted by following links to Explore Data and then Range maps; the blank areas have not lists. There are too many of those in Maine). Here is a direct link where a list of Maine IBAs may be selected to see the existing lists: http://tinyurl.com/lodnmtc
I encourage everyone to submit their checklists, both for current IBAs and for areas worth nominating. Please see the Maine Audubon web site here for more information:

Thanks and good birding!
