Late yesterday afternoon there were at least 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows mixed into a flock of a couple dozen Tree Swallows and several Chimney Swifts circling above the marsh. More intriguing was something calling from the middle of the marsh for about 20 seconds and heard very clearly... somewhat Rock Pigeon or to a lesser degree Cuckoo-sounding but lower-pitched, "po-po-po-po" followed by some other noises that I've never heard any marsh bird make. Sounded nothing like a duck, Pied-billed Grebe, Sora or Virginia Rail but did match online recordings of Least Bittern pretty closely. Of course it wasn't visible so I'll consider it a maybe.
