[Maine-birds] FOY Hummingbird and Alewives and Eagles at Benton Dam

FOY RTHB at the feeder this morning.  Over 500 thousand alewives up over the Benton Falls Dam so far this spring.  The eagles are massing downstream of the Benton Dam - Rt 100 just south of Rt 139 intersection.  Last year we could see 10 or more at a time.  Paddling from Benton Dam to Kennebec we counted 50 eagles.  There were 10 soaring in the air at one time.  The Benton Alewife Festival is this Saturday 10-4:30.  You can watch the alewife swim through the counting tubes at the fish lift at the dam.  There is a glass window that gives one a side view of the fish passage.
