Bar Harbor 5/13/15
Six Indigo Buntings at my feeder this morning, 4 males and 2 females. They were attracted to the thistle feeder, some feeding directly from the feeder and others on the spilled seeds underneath. They seemed to take turns at the feeder itself.
One trip around Frenchman Bay today but windy and with a 3 ft. swell coming in from open ocean. One fast moving flock of 20 or so small sandpipers passed rapidly headed toward Schoodic Pt. Didn't have enough time for id. Small flock of 15-20 Black Scoters going south at mouth of bay with one male Common Eider tagging along with them. We are seeing more Common Eiders than at this time last year.
Herring Gulls, Double-crested Cormorants, Bald Eagles on nests. No sign of Peregrine activity along the Ironbound Island cliffs yet. Harbor Seals still heavily pregnant.
