The first Snowy Owl of the season in northern Maine was found this morning by Rob and Lydia Kieffer on Green Ridge in Caribou. As seen on the Maine Birds Facebook Group, the bird was nicely documented as it sat on the tailgate of their truck! I was able to relocate the bird this afternoon. http://ebird.org/ebird/me/view/checklist?subID=S25794800
-- The Greater White-fronted Goose continues to return to Collins Pond in Caribou and was photographed again today by Cody Ybarrondo.
An early AM hike through the Woodland Bog this AM produced a pair of Pine Grosbeaks, a small flock of Evening Grosbeaks, Pine Siskins, a Gray Jay, a flyover Snow Bunting and 5 different Ruffed Grouse.
I saw my yard in daylight for the first time since last Saturday and found the Bohemian Waxwings and American Robins had made short work of the Mountain Ash berries. Also too, I discovered that the Brown Thrasher I spotted here in late October was still lingering. This is a late date for this species anywhere in Maine.
I think this was the first time I've seen a thrasher and a Snowy Owl on the same date...
Good Birding
