[Maine-birds] Northern shrike (Juv) & Red-bellied woodpecker

Hi folks,

I birded Messalonskee Marsh and a couple of nearby roads this morning saw a juvenile Northern shrike on the marsh (from the railroad crossing on Rt. 27) and a Red-bellied woodpecker near the end of Pinewood Drive off Rt. 11 not far from the lake.

Birds were very low in numbers.

Boat launch along Rt. 27, Hammond Lumber overlook, Depot Road ('Purple martin drive') and Pinewood Drive (first road on right along Rt. 11 ~1/2 mile of Rt. 27)

10:00 am to 12:00 pm; cloudy; winds light; temperature 45 F.

7      Common mergansers

2      Mallards (pair)

1      Northern shrike, juvenile

12    Black-capped chickadees

1      Tufted titmouse

2      White-breasted nuthatches

7      American crows

2      Blue jays

1      Tufted titmouse

1      Hairy woodpecker

1      Red-bellied woodpecker

~40 House sparrows
