[Maine-birds] Augusta Gnatcatcher-Cape May-Tennessee yesterday

Yesterday evening I checked out Viles Arboretum in Augusta and had some nice luck. Up in the Larch Grove there were 4 Cape May Warblers, a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Magnolia Warbler and a few other warblers.

Just behind the pond there is a Nannyberry tree along the trail that has black fruits that are an incredible magnet for birds. There were two Tennessee Warblers coming in to it along with 4-5 Eastern Kingbirds, two Gray Catbirds, a Red-eyed Vireo, a Chestnut-sided Warbler, and some Cedar Waxwings. The fruits were such a draw that the birds kept trying to fly in to the tree even when I was standing near it trying to figure out what kind of tree it was! As soon as I backed off a little the Tennessee Warblers and Eastern Kingbirds came right back to it.

Anyway, lots of birds to see over there!

P.S. The Larch Grove is off to the right (south) as you are walking in.
