Visitors:
46 people came to the Hawkwatch today, mostly people from the area but a few from out of state. Many more people came up to the summit, until the winds drove them away.

Weather:
Strong winds from the south-southeast blasted the summit for the entire day. Clouds filled the sky at the start of the day, receded by noon, and rolled back in for the last hour of the count. Temperatures climbed to the high 50s.

Raptor Observations:
The strong winds made it difficult to track distant birds while using the scope, the legs of the tripod vibrating in the breeze giving the birds the appearance of riding on the end of a tuning fork. There seemed to be a lot of local activity today. Many Bald Eagles could be seen throughout the day, along with other displaying birds, and a group of twelve Turkey Vultures which circled low over the mountain as the day was wrapping up.

Non-raptor Observations:
40 species were seen and or heard today. I did not find any First Of Year birds at the mountain today. A small prop plane was doing aerobatic maneuvers near the mountain in the afternoon hours. Two party balloons, one blue the other gold aluminum film were spotted traveling northbound. Hopefully not on their way to killing turtles.

Predictions:
There will likely be clouds for much of the day tomorrow with scattered showers for the afternoon hours. Temperatures will still be below normal, in the mid 50s. Winds should be from the west and maybe a little southwest at 5-10mph. Time is running out for a lot of these birds to get on territory and to produce offspring. My time getting to view these birds is also running out. With the relatively light winds predicted, I would hope to see birds moving tomorrow.
