[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights and New Arrivals, 4/29-5/5

Hi all,

My birding has been limited (relatively speaking) and close to home this week, but our feeder-watching has made up for it. We currently have 8 Yellow-rumped Warblers, a pair of Pine Warblers, a male Scarlet Tanager, and a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (among five species of woodpeckers; just need a flicker now!) are all visiting the feeding station for suet, mealworms, nuts, jelly, etc. A few of Jeannette's photos from the week are here (scroll to the bottom of the page):

A few observations of note outside the yard over the past seven days included:

- "Patches" the TRICOLORED HERON X SNOWY EGRET hybrid back for Year 6 (or, one of the hybrid or perhaps backcrosses that have been present for 6 years in total now), Pelreco Marsh, 5/1 (with Jeannette, et al; Photos)

- 1 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (FOY), Jones Creek, Scarborough Marsh, 5/1 (with Jeannette, et al).

- 110+ lingering White-winged Scoters, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 5/3.

And my other personal "FOYs" this week were as follows:

- 1 Black-throated Green Warbler, Bradbury Mountain State Park, Pownal, 4/29 (with Feathers Over Freeport Birdwalk group).

- 1 Northern Parula, Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, Freeport, 4/30 (with Feathers Over Freeport Birdwalk group).

- 1 White-crowned Sparrow, feeders here at the store, 4/30.

~30 Least Sandpipers, Pelreco Marsh, Scarborough Marsh, 5/1 (with Jeannette, et al).

- 26 Lesser Yellowlegs, Jones Creek, 5/1 (with Jeannette, et al)

- 1 Gray Cartbird, feeders here at the store, 5/1.

- 2 Black-throated Blue Warblers, Bradbury Mountain Hawkwatch, 5/2.

- 1 Spotted Sandpiper, Augusta Greenway riverwalk, 5/2.

- 2 Nashville Warblers, Florida Lark Park, Freeport, 5/3.

- 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Florida Lake Park, 5/3.

- 1 Chimney Swift, Bradbury Mountain Hawkwatch, 5/4.

- 1 Blackburnian Warbler, Bradbury Mountain Hawkwatch, 5/4.
