I spent a few hours on the Ferry Beach side of the flats at low tide this morning and spotted a juvenile Black Guillemot very close to shore at the "elbow" of Ferry Beach. I walked into the water and photographed it from 15 feet or so for about 10 minuites. The bird would continually surface in roughly the same spot. Seemed like an unusual spot for this species.
