[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights and Shorebird High Counts, 8/18-24.

Hi all,

My highlights from the past seven days, not previously reported here, included:

-1 DICKCISSEL (first of fall), fly-over at Jones Creek, Scarborough Marsh, 8/21 (with clients).

-1 TRICOLORED HERON, continuing along the Eastern Road Trail, Scarborough Marsh, 8/21 (with clients).

-1 Red-necked Grebe, Pine Point Beach, Scarborough, 8/22 (with a client).

-1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 1 Northern Pintails, 4+ Blue-winged Teal, Eastern Road Trail, 8/22 (with client).

-1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Laudholm Farms, Wells, 8/24 (with Ed Hess).

 

And my shorebird high counts this week:

Black-bellied Plover: 58, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 8/18 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).

Semipalmated Plover: ~200 (at least four juveniles), Biddeford Pool Beach, 8/19 (with Chris Borg).

Piping Plover: 4, Laudholm-Drake's Island Beach, Wells, 8/24 (with Ed Hess).

Killdeer: 21, Highland Road, Brunswick, 8/18 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk Group).

Greater Yellowlegs: 21 (6 juvenile), Back Cove, Portland, 8/23.

Lesser Yellowlegs: 12 juveniles, Eastern Road Trail, 8/22 (with client).

Solitary Sandpiper: 2 juveniles, Highland Road, 8/18 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk Group) and Eastern Road Trail, 8/22 (with client).

"Eastern" Willet: 6 juveniles, The Pool, Biddeford, 8/21 (with clients).

Spotted Sandpiper: 4, Ocean Avenue, Biddeford Pool, 8/22.

Whimbrel: 2, The Pool, 8/22 (with client).

Ruddy Turnstone: 21 (4 juveniles, first of fall), Biddeford Pool Beach, 8/19 (with Chris Borg).

Red Knot: 2 juveniles, Pine Point, Scarborough, 8/22 (with client).

Sanderling: 98, Laudholm-Drake's Island Beach, 8/24 (with Ed Hess).

Semipalmated Sandpiper: 695, Biddeford Pool Beach, 8/22 (with client).

WESTERN SANDPIPER: 1 molting adult, Biddeford Pool Beach, 8/19 (with Chris Borg). 

Least Sandpiper: 100+, Eastern Road Trail, 8/22 (with client).

White-rumped Sandpiper: 21 adults, Biddeford Pool Beach, 8/19 (with Chris Borg).

Pectoral Sandpiper: 1, Eastern Road Trail, 8/22 (with client).

Short-billed Dowitcher: 15, Wells Harbor, 8/24 (with Ed Hess).
