What appears to be a fairly newly fledged hummingbird in my garden is sitting on top of flowers and pea fence, peeping plaintively. Can fly, but allows VERY close approach (18 inches or less). There is an adult female intermittently pestering it, or feeding on the bee balm flowers that it is sitting on - I can hypothesize trying to demonstrate how to feed but of course am just guessing. Seems very late for such a youngster. Trying not to interfere but did fill a spare feeder and hung it about a foot away.
If anyone has any thoughts I would be interested to hear - I have never seen young hummers before. I have a little video I am happy to share if anyone wants to see it but won't load it onto the list.
