While hiking in the Halfway Brook
area this afternoon I saw four small
hawks circling, diving and flying around
a large gravel pit area. They were in
sight, then quickly out of sight. Quite
active in my presence. One landed
on a tree top fairly distant from me,
but stayed put long enough for a photo.
I think they were American kestrels. If so,
it's my first sighting and photo of one.
Cheers,
