Marie Jordan and I went on a wild goose chase today. We found the two
Snow Geese, the imm. White-fronted, and two of the Cackling Geese at
Thornhurst. On our way there along Greely Rd. Marie had to pull over to
take a phone call. While she was busy, what else was there for me to do
but look at birds. I really lucked out as there were 3 Common Redpolls
in the yard where she pulled over-- # 239.
We also checked out a flock of about 300 Canadas in the fields on
Stroudwater St., just west of the turnpike. We didn't spot anything
different but found 4 birds with yellow neck bands with numbers
beginning with G. After a little research I was able to find out that
they were banded in Isunngua, West Greenland, two in 2008 and two in 2009.
I also discovered that Bill Sheehan had seen and photographed one of
these birds, GLU, in the fall of 2009 at Collins Pond a year after it
was banded. Pretty neat. There were no reports of sightings of the
other two, banded in 2009.
I have reported these birds and will be interested to see what other
info I get.
