[Maine-birds] Re: Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife commented on their Wall post.

I made a post on our MEBIRD's-googlegroup  about hibernation of our ME Black Bears a few days ago and wanted to share the ME Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife's response to this question.

Good birding,
Chip

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife commented on their Wall post.
Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife wrote: "The bear denning season is largely dependent on food availabillity. If food is scarce, such as it was this fall, they will begin to den in October. If there is sufficient natural foods available later in the fall, they may not den until November, or even possibly early December, depending on weather and food. They typically emerge from the den sometime in April, but may come out earlier if the winter is exceptionally mild, as it was last spring."
