Several stops at likely habitat eventually paid off when a Snowy Owl (SNOW) was located at the industrial park just west of Dysart's in Hermon. The SNOW was on the Fed Ex bldg scanning the open fields to its south. This SNOW was noted with quite heavy dark markings on breast, abdomen, sides of neck, and a pronounced "widow's peak pattern. The nape, face and throat all white. Careful viewing through a scope led me to judge the marks as either black or very dark brown. Not the muddy brown marks seen on some of the SNOW observed in the winter of 2013-14. I wonder if this is a helpful indication of the age/gender question.
A single Horned Lark was located picking in the ditch off the access road to the aircraft rehab facility located off the Odlin Road in Bangor,at the end of the Bangor international airport runway.
A female red bellied woodpecker continues to intermittently visit the suet at this residence in Hamden. And a Northern Mockingbird was seen crossing Western Avenue in Hampton this morning.
