My app iBird Pro app notes that a "Juvenile resembles female but has dark eyes and bill" so your bird is most likely a juvenile Common Goldeneye. Nice photos. Marie

Subject: [Maine-birds] Snowy owl and unknown duck in Popham
I was at Popham beach around noon today. The snowy owl was on the island on the lee side of a stone monument... but the tide was pretty high and I don't have a scope, so I couldn't get a good look. Also, I saw this lone duck paddling around on the flooded beach. My duck ID skills aren't much above "Mallard or not Mallard", so a little help would be appreciated, please. Pretty sure it's a female Goldeneye - are their eyes more dull in the winter?
