Weather:
Sunny with a few stray clouds that made for a nice day out at Bradbury Mountain. A light wind from the east was present for the entire count. The high temperature was 15 C. Quite a change from yesterday's heat wave!
Raptor Observations:
Today 7 raptors were counted migrating past the summit. Local Broad-winged Hawks made up for the lack of migrants with display flights, close fly-overs, and flights with small-mammalian prey items.
Non-raptor Observations:
Today seven species of warblers were recorded at the summit, including several great looks at Blackburnian Warblers. Other migrants included: Red-winged Blackbird 4 Bank Swallow (FOY) 4 Barn Swallow 2 Tree Swallow 1 Swallow sp. 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1 Warbler sp. 1
Predictions:
Tomorrow looks like a much better day for migrating raptors than today. Southeast winds are predicted to change to south and stay light for the entire count period. This is the last weekend for the hawk watch, as the count ends this coming Friday. Make sure you get up to the summit for one last look at your favorite migrants. Rare southern raptors (kites) have been spotted at our site during this final week in previous seasons. Tomorrow looks good!
