[Maine-birds] Help Needed with American Woodcock Singing Ground Surveys

I coordinate the annual woodcock singing ground surveys in Maine for the USFWS Division of Migratory Birds.  We need two new observers to run the Skowhegan and Jim Pond routes.  The survey is run once a year and starts 15-22 minutes after local sunset.  It consists of 10 points where the observer listens for 2 minutes at each point and records the number of individual woodcock heard peenting.  The observer must be able to hear the woodcocks peent, some people loose this range of hearing early in age.

If you are interested please contact me at Maurice_Mills@fws.gov or maurrymills@gmail.com.

I also coordinate the Breeding Bird Surveys for Maine.  If you are interested in that survey please contact me and/or visit the BBS Web Page for additional information and to see a list of available routes.

Thanks, and good birding,

Maurry Mills
