[Maine-birds] Re: Caspian Terns-Wharton Point

One was there while I was looking today (Friday) from around 11:00A-12:00P. Initially looking from the parking area up the marsh I saw 2 birds at the farthest reach of my scope that left me thinking they were possibly the 2 reported, however I could not get a good enough view to confirm. They seemed to be skimming in the ravines and then rising up every so often for a dive, would then fly back around the corner and repeat. Was watching this behavior when the Smiths showed up and enlightened me about the path out to the island. We walked out there and when we came around the back side, we found one tern hovering, diving, then flying back. Similar to what I was seeing before however much higher off the water. It continued this for a while before heading up across the parking area and on up towards Bunganuc Point.

Also of note were many great blue herons, some great egrets and snowy egrets, several green winged teal, a blue winged teal, 2 glossy ibis, and several ring billed gulls, red breasted mergansers, and at least 4 greater yellowlegs. There was a large raft of ducks I did not get to investigate as I had to leave though.
