Definite up-tic in shorebirds after the front of 2 days ago. At low tide, beginning of flood, this morning, a flock of 8 flying Whimbrels was a pulse-quickening sight. First seen over on the Seawall side (hope Gordon saw them) they eventually flew in a loose flock over the Popham Salt Marsh heading for wherever.
Other counts:
Semi Sands - 208 in three sep groups
Least sands - 4
SBDowitchers - 3 (plus 14 in Spirit Pond
Semi Plovers - 14
BB Plovers - 2
Sanderling - 12 (w/ peeps surf zone)
Spotted Sands - 2 (continuing birds - nesters??)
Willet - 6 vocal today
Piping Plovers - 7 (did not see any young birds)
Barn Swallow - 24
Tree Swallows - 12
Terns not conspicuous this morning. Must have been focused on prey elsewhere. 20 Least Terns; 15 Common Terns. No Royal Terns
