Re: [Maine-birds] Rockland peregrine

The Hog Island Audon raptor group observed 4 peregrines, including 3 frolicking juvs, near the Thomaston cement factory.  Given the regularity of peregrines in the area, we suspected nesting and our observations confirmed this.   The juvs were just off the nest as they were too clumsy  to land on trees.  But they were mighty fancy in the air.  Beat the Blue Angels cold.  Pics to follow.

Yesterday afternoon I witnessed several pigeons being chased down Rockland's Main Street at rooftop level. This may be one of the Camden nesters that eventually inhabits the downtown sector each mid-summer. With recently reported sightings at the Dragon Cement Plant in Thomaston, the falcons seem to triangulate between these sites in the general Weskeag vicinity.
