[Maine-birds] Spirit Pond - Aug 14 Marbled Godwit

Among the thousand or so shorebirds hanging out in Spirit Pond (Phippsburg) this morning was a handsome Marbled Godwit, photo'd in hideously strong backlighting. It joined close to a thousand peeps, 59 SBDowitchers, including a subsp. 'hendersoni', 76 or more GYLegs, and 63+ BBPlovers.

These shorebirds stage here between the time the mudflats in Atkins Bay become inundated by the flood tide, and their return to Popham Beach to loaf at peak High Tide. Their signal to return to Popham comes when the mud bar they feed on becomes flooded. Today that happened at 11:03 AM.
