Hi all,
Kristen Lindquist, Evan Obercian, Jeannette, and I spent the day from dawn through dusk combing the Portland peninsula, and hotspots in South Portland and Cape Elizabeth.
It wasn't the birdiest of days, that's for sure, but we did manage a decent suite of species and some seasonal birds of note. Ravaging of extensive areas of woods and scrub vegetation throughout the Portland peninsula greatly limited the areas that still have enough cover for "lingering" migrants and rarities.
Highlights today included:
- 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, Eastern Promenade.
- 1 Field Sparrow, Eastern Promenade.
- 1 Palm Warbler, Eastern Promenade.
- 3 Hermit Thrushes, Eastern Promenade.
- 1 GRAY CATBIRD, Sheridan St, Portland.
- 1 Hermit Thrush, Anderson St, Portland.
- 1-2 Peregrine Falcons, Portland Harbor.
- 5 Snow Buntings, Trundy Point, Cape Elizabeth.
- 40+ Common Loons and 7 Red-throated Loons, Trundy Point, Cape Elizabeth.
- 1 Wilson's Snipe, 5 American Pipits, and 17+ Eastern Bluebirds, Maxwell's Farm, Cape Elizabeth.
- 1 Northern Flicker, Sawyer Rd, South Portland.
- 1 Wilson's Snipe, Joe's Pond Park, South Portland.
- 1 juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 9 Black-bellied Plovers, and 5 Dunlin, Back Cove, Portland.
