All week I have been reading reports about the Black-throated Sparrow, chomping at the bit to chase this bird—it was, after all, only across the bar from MDI—but I have had loads of preparation for an Antarctic trip and could not afford the time. Well, today, on the way to the Bangor Airport, my wife and I took a detour to chase the bird. We knew we were at the right place when we saw Louis Bevier, Don Mairs, and Scott Hall. It took about 20 minutes but Scott found the bird for us! YES!!! This was a life-bird for me . . . and fortuitous way to begin my journey to Antarctica.
