[Maine-birds] Black-throated sparrow later today Yes Yes

Hi everyone and Peter,

Talk about lack of coordination on my part! Actually, I could not have departed Augusta much earlier.  As Peter noted, what a great day!

I saw the black-throated sparrow and red fox sparrow at several locations including the field below the Mill Stream Heights housing development.  I first encountered the bird along Hillcrest Lane at a feeder on the north end of the housing development along with the fox sparrow, juncos and a tree sparrow.   The black-throated sparrow flew over the building, after which I found it feeding in a partially snow-covered field below the parking access road (at the end of the road).  I also heard it call with a flock of juncos across from the Mill Steam Heights sign along Hillcrest.

I followed the one-way loop road out to the Schoodic Point area and picked up a dunlin with two purple sandpipers on the inner side of Schoodic Island opposite the Blueberry Point parking area.  The sandpipers were tucked into crevices on the near-vertical side facing the parking area. There was also a nearby razorbill and Iceland gull on the water and great cormorant fly-bys.  Waterbirds were not very numerous.

Good birding,

Notm
