the pond has remained open though it is starting to close and by tomorrow might be frozen--
-- meanwhile, the ducks have been active--
on Christmas day as I sat on the deck, I watched several hooded mergansers--also an immature eagle flew over and settled on a branch on an island for 10 minutes--
on New Year's Day there were 6 hooded mergansers swimming and diving along the shoreline-- a mature bald eagle was circling near the shore across the pond
also on the 31st, 1st, and 2nd a solitary bufflehead was diving off shore--
the mallards come in and out, clustering under the feeder in the early morning and at dusk--
chickadees, titmice, juncos, goldfinches, wb nuthatches, a cardinal pair, hairy and downy woodpeckers, bluejays, and doves are daily visitors, and the red bellied woodpecker stops by occasionally
