One of the three Short-eared Owls was seen tonight at the Bowdoin sand plains. It did not emerge until about 4pm, so if you go, be patient. Also to echo what Josh Fecteau said, please be respectful of these owls, there were several people tonight who tried to get way too close in order to get photos and they flushed the bird.
-- Directions: Park at the corner of Pine and Abijah St., there will be a cemetery on your left. Follow the recently paved bike bath at the intersection of those two streets for a short distance until you hit the perimeter road for the airport. Stay right on the perimeter road and walk until you get to an opening on your left. There is a dirt road near the middle of that opening on the left side of the perimeter road that will take you out towards an old white and red checkered generator. That area provides a good vantage point to scan for the Short-eared as well as any Snowy owls that may be out on the runway (there was one tonight)
Happy birding,
Brendan
