[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights, 1/2-6 (and a couple blog links).

Hi all,

My observations of note over the past five days included:
- 25-30 Dunlin, Freeport Town Wharf (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).
- Freeport-Brunswick CBC, 1/3: Freeport West territory (with Jeannette):
430 Black-capped Chickadees, 146 American Goldfinches, 53 Tufted Titmice, and 48 White-breasted Nuthatches - all count circle highs, and new records for our territory. Other new territory record highs: 11 Mallards, 26 European Starlings, 20 Northern Cardinals, and 29 House Finches. The 5 Red-breasted Nuthatches tied for the count circle high but were a record low for our territory. No "winter finches."
- 200+ Common Mergansers, Thorne Head Preserve, Bath, 1/4 (with Jeannette).
- 1 hen Greater Scaup, Sebago Lake at Harmon Point, Standish, 1/5 (with Jeannette).
- 3 SNOWY OWLS, Brunswick Landing at dusk, 1/6 (with Jeannette).

And two blog entries that might be of interest:
1) A summary of my December Warbler (and Sparrow) Big Month:

2) My annual Predictions List for the next 25 species to be found in Maine, and for myself:
