[Maine-birds] Question glossy ibis at Augusta Arboretum

This morning at the Augusta Arboretum around 11 a.m., I saw a bird that I thought was a glossy ibis. It was smaller than a great blue heron, dark in color but quite large with a yellowish long legs and yellowish very curved downward beak. It flew between the marshes. I tried to get a picture but no luck. When it first flew up it was on the piggery road between the first two ball fields in the marsh with something in its mouth. It then flew to the opposite side in the larger marsh area. I crept slowly in my car but I jumped it and it circled around and it finally went out of sight going down the Piggery Road. I checked all marshes for awhile but no sight of it again. Any ideas if a glossy ibis is what it could be, if not, what it might have been.
