[Maine-birds] FOY birds, Old Town and Hudson

Spotted my FOY pair of great blue herons as I was driving home tonight, flying over Kirkland Road in Old Town. Our pine warblers came back to their usual nesting spot in the front yard and started singing yesterday, and I had my FOY belted kingfisher flyover at 6:30 a.m. this morning.

Pushaw Lake ice-out occurred less than a week ago.  Common loons arrived and started calling within a few hours, and that's typical here.  How do they always know???  Is there a loon recon patrol there out 24-7, just cruising around and looking for open water?
