Visitors:
38 people came by today.

Weather:
Another day of howling wind, this time from the northwest. Despite the wind it was a really pleasant day with a mix of clouds and sun. Temps climbed into the upper 50's and caused a little perspiration in the afternoon hours. Visibility was good.

Raptor Observations:
Winds were the likely culprit for the lower than expected numbers at this time of year with the sun shining. Birds were mostly far from the mountain. A few more Eagles were added to the board today as they all were behaving in a similar migrant fashion, moving point to point fairly high above. These were all sub-adults two of which put on a nice show momentarily, flipping over and smacking talons, never quite fully locking together.

Non-raptor Observations:
Slim pickings today. 2 northbound Tree Swallows and a first of season Yellow-rumped Warbler were the only non raptors I found moving north. Well, there were two others which were a pair of low flying Sandhhill Cranes which moved in from the east southeast at eye level. I turned my attention away briefly as they were over Pownal and when I looked back they had disappeared. I suspect they may have landed briefly, as a couple minutes later I spotted them in the same location resuming their journey. Eventually they passed directly over the summit, to my delight. I couldn't interest any parkgoers in having a look, so I enjoyed them and snapped some photos.

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks to be pretty calm with light winds from the NW and maybe a period of SW in the afternoon. Temps ought to be comfortable, in the low to mid 50's. There should be ample sun for thermal production and maybe a smattering of clouds to help us spot birds. With a week of low numbers and less than ideal conditions, tomorrow could be pretty good. I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots of birds and people.
