Re: [Maine-birds] Sandhill Cranes

I defer to someone with more knowledge on the  subject, but these cranes, for the most part, don't breed in the local area.  This seems to be a staging area for cranes that have bred in various places throughout the State.  There is at least one pair of cranes which nests locally, in a marsh/bog in Smithfield. 

The "sticks"  in the picture are corn stalks.  The cranes seem to prefer cornfields which have been recently harvested.
