Bruce Maxwell found an adult SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER late today along Route 100 at the Burham-Pittsfield town line. Already not far from the area birding, I was able to relocate this beautiful and vocal (male?) flycatcher between 5 and 6 p.m., Trevor Persons joining me during that time.
The bird ranged from near the town-line signs along Route 100 north of Burnham Junction (map 21, C4) to a short distance north of the last fields on the west and east in this stretch. It ranged over a wide area, occasionally perching on low bushes or fence posts well away from the road on both sides. It also frequented the wires immediately along the highway or a parallel set of lines to the east.
